How to Share Your Big Day

Let’s be honest… You’ve been thinking about your wedding day for a much longer period of time then you would like to admit. You may have changed the colors, theme, and dress a million times, but the idea of how your big day will turn out has always been there. Whether it be a beach wedding with candles and neutral colors or a black tie affair filled with crystals and pearls, a wedding day is a detail-filled occasion.

But what about the groom? We all know there will be a person there right along with us to share the big day, but have we ever considered their opinions on details like color or theme? What if you’ve dreamed your entire life of a white chocolate, castle themed wedding cake, but your partner hates chocolate and castles? How do you compromise on something as important as your wedding?

Well, you have 3 options:

1. You choose not to compromise on anything. After all, you have been hoping and planning for this longer than you can probably remember. I’m not saying that there won’t be some fights or arguments with your partner, but you might be the type of person who fights to get everything they want. More power to ya woman!

2. You compromise on some of the smaller details. Maybe your partner reeeaalllyyyy wants to have the DJ play some songs you absolutely despise… you can just take a really long bathroom break at this point. Or maybe your significant other wants a mac-and-cheese bar at the buffet, actually, if you think this is a compromise I’m judging you. MAC AND CHEESE BARS ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA. But honestly, giving in on some of his/her requests can show you care about their feelings without changing your big dream day.

3. You make every decision together. If you are a woman who can do this I give you my utmost admiration. Under this option you are basically agreeing to compromise on every detail, including the napkins and guest favors. Not that your partner will necessarily care to be a part of every decision, but it is a possibility. I think this is a bold move, but it can show your partner you are committed to making BOTH of you happy on the wedding day.

In the end, you’re the only one who understands your relationship with your significant other. It’s up to you on how to incorporate your partner’s opinions into the details, but you should always keep in mind that they are there too. Be a little selfish if you need to, but in my personal opinion, I think it is important to make your partner feel just as important and included in the wedding day details.
